The end of INsights
INsights 085, Friday 1st August 2025

It’s over.

Please don’t cry.

But the time has come to draw a line under INsights as a regular email newsletter.

The journey began at the end of 2021 when I ended my tenure as Chief Executive of National Zakat Foundation and transitioned to... however you want to describe whatever it is I've been doing since!

Almost four years, 85 editions and 100,000+ words later, I’m drawing the curtain.

I could bore or entertain you with reasons, but who has time for that?

Instead I’ll say two things:

a) this doesn’t mean an end to me writing. It just means I won’t be releasing what I write under a particular name, in a particular format, on a particular day, at a particular frequency.

b) my next writing project is going to involve reviewing everything I have written under the INsights banner, finding the best bits, consolidating sensibly, editing ruthlessly, updating tastefully and then… drum roll please… releasing whatever is left as a book.

It’s 1st August 2025, I’ll give myself six months, so that means trying to get something out by 1st February 2026, just in time for Ramadan.

All that remains for me to say is a massive thank you for your encouragement and engagement along the way.

In response to INsights newsletters, I have received no less than 2,898 feedback form submissions – an average of 34 per edition!

That’s before counting the direct responses to the emails as well as direct messages I’ve been sent too.

I can't tell you how much each one of these has meant to me, even and especially the ones that have told me how I've got it all wrong.

You’ve been challenged, inspired, brought to tears, made to smile, peered into my soul and been invited to look deep into your own.

We’ve talked prayer, leadership and revelation.

We’ve talked substance, meaning and connection.

All for one thing and one thing only: to explore how we might better orient ourselves more precisely and more closely to the divine.

Throughout the process, I learned a lot of things about a lot of things.

I hope you did too.

Overall it’s been a blast.

I’m full of gratitude.
